How much does it cost to apply PR in Canada – Express Entry?

The total cost to apply PR in Canada can be determined by accumulating different expenditures under following categories

Government and Other Fees (after receiving Invitation to apply)

The most important fees to consider for Express Entry are the government filing fees (the fees you must pay to Immigration Canada to have them process your application), and the proof of funds (that we describe later in this article). The government filing fees for Express Entry include the following:

  • $825 per person- Processing fee (an additional $825 if a spouse or common-law partner is included)
  • $500 per person – Right of Permanent Residence Fee (an additional $500 if a spouse or common-law partner is included). Note: this can also be paid when you are landing in Canada
  • $225 – per Dependent Child
  • $85 – biometrics fee for the main applicant, or $170 total for 2 or more applicants

You should also keep in mind that you will incur additional fees for other services throughout your application, such as:

  • INR 13, 600 – Language exam fees – IELTS General
  • $220 or approx. INR 13,000 – An Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for degrees. If you choose international courier service (UPS) add $85. (per person)
  • $100 or Approx. INR 5,000 – Getting your transcripts printed, attested and shipped to World Education Services (WES) from your university.
  • Approx. INR 8,500 – Medical exam – after receiving Invitation to apply
  • $10 for INR 500 – Police certificate – after receiving Invitation to apply
  • Translating documents not in English or French

Total: Roughly $2250 or INR 1,12,500 per person considering 1CAD = INR 50. If you hire a consultant to assist you, then please add the fees of the consultant.

Proof of Funds

One of the main requirements for applications under the Express Entry Program is to demonstrate that applicants have enough money to support both themselves and their families after arriving in Canada. This is called Proof of Funds.

The only exceptions to this rule are if a) an applicant is currently working and authorized to work in Canada, or b) they have received a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. It is important to note that the amount of funds needed varies based on the size of the family, and that these numbers are updated yearly. The table below is the most recent iteration of funds required in Canadian dollars:
